Why a manual log works
Paid rank trackers check hundreds of keywords from a data center every day. A small site rarely needs that. You need to know whether the ten or twenty phrases that bring you customers are moving up or down, and a weekly reading is enough to see it.
The steadiest number you can get for free is Search Console's average position for a query, which covers every searcher who saw your page. A manual search from your own browser is a single snapshot, shaped by where you are and what device you use. Both are fine to log as long as you don't mix them for the same keyword.
What to log, and how often
- Pick 10 to 25 keywords that match pages you actually want found.
- Log once a week, on the same weekday, using the last 7 days in Search Console.
- Add a note when you change something: a new title, a rewrite, new links.
- Export a CSV every month or so. Browser storage can be cleared.

Questions
- Does Tweeted Ranks check Google for me?
- No. Tweeted Ranks does not scrape or query Google. You enter the position you saw in a search, or the average position from Google Search Console, and the log keeps the history and draws the chart.
- Where is my data stored?
- In your own browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent to our server. Use Export CSV to keep a backup or to move your log to another browser, and Import CSV to load it back.
- Should I log a manual search or the Search Console number?
- Pick one source per keyword and stick with it. A single manual search shows one snapshot that depends on your location and device. Search Console's average position covers every searcher over the period you choose, so it is the steadier number for a weekly log.
- Can I use decimals like 7.4?
- Yes. Search Console reports average position with one decimal, so the log accepts decimals between 1 and 100.
- Is this affiliated with Google or X?
- No. Tweeted Ranks is an independent site. Google and Search Console are trademarks of Google LLC, and X is a trademark of X Corp. The share button only opens X's own post composer with your text filled in.
